Luke Cage season 2 is on the way, and Harlem’s hero is calling us out for a second round this June.
The new Luke Cage season 2 teaser plays like a direct message from Luke to anyone who feels like challenging him — or those of us who would just like to watch.
According to the teaser, the second season will hit Netflix on June 22 — barely four months after the release of Jessica Jones season 2.
“After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin,” Netflix says of the sophomore season. “But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.”
Luke Cage season 2 will also, presumably, deal with the fallout of Detective Misty Knight’s loss of her arm in The Defenders. There’s also the fact that Luke’s half-brother Diamondback is not quite as dead as advertised, meaning that this “formidable new foe” will probably not be the only problem that Luke has to face.
Netflix and Marvel have revealed a few new still photos from Luke Cage season 2. Luke’s increasing fame is (rather adorably) hinted at, as is Misty’s new bionic arm and more than a few fight scenes.
As anticipated, Luke Cage season 2 is only part of the wider Marvel/Netflix story. Daredevil season 3 and Iron Fist season 2 are both in production now.
Luke Cage season 2 hits Netflix on June 22.
