As the premiere of Marvel’s Inhumans approaches, ABC is looking to dip into the comic universe again.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival yesterday, Senior VP of original programming at Marvel Television Karim Zreik revealed that they’re working with ABC on a new series that sounds like it’ll be led by a female.
The Hollywood Reporter writes:
While he wouldn’t offer specifics, he also revealed that Marvel TV was working again with ABC — which it has partnered with on Inhumans — on a new female-focused show currently in development. “It’s Jessica Jones-esque,” he said, without providing further details.
Jessica Jones was Marvel and Netflix’s second Original Series and premiered to rave reviews from critics and comic fans alike. The series, led by actress Krysten Ritter, has a second season in the works which is expected to premiere in 2018.
Obviously the “Jessica Jones-esque” tease makes it sound like Marvel and ABC are working on a new series with a female lead. Perhaps it’ll be gritty and the lead will be a total sarcastic badass.
One also wonders if this means Marvel and ABC have completely moved on from giving Agent Carter another chance. The drama, starring Hayley Atwell, ran for two seasons and had a small but passionate following.
