Nintendo held a 3DS-centric live broadcast that outlined what players can expect to see for the rest of the year in terms of Mario and friends.
Mario Party will see an iteration on the 3DS, likely following in the footsteps of its handheld predecessor, Mario Party DS.
The 3DS version of Mario Party will use AR cards to enhance gameplay. AR cards allow players to scan in barcodes or images that the 3DS’ dual outer cameras can recognize in-game.
A release date for Mario Party 3DS was not announced.
Yoshi’s Island will return on the 3DS, marking the first Yoshi’s Island game since the DS game Yoshi’s Island DS.
The graphics of the Yoishi’s Island game for the 3DS look similar to the SNES game, while gameplay will harken back to Yoishi’s Story for the Nintendo 64.
The SNES game saw two releases on other consoles, one being the Game Boy Advance, and the other on the Wii’s Virtual Console. A release date for this game was also not announced, but Nintendo President Satoru Iwata promised more details to come.
Game and Wario, a game that will feature WarioWare-like minigames, was announced for the Wii U. This game will be out in North America on June 23.
Two Zelda games have been announced for the 3DS. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 will be a new adventure set in the same timeline of the original Link to the Past. The game will feature all new dungeons and a new storyline. The ability to have Link walk on a wall as a drawing will be in the game.
The Link to the Past sequel will be out “before holiday 2013.” Also, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop May 30.
