A new trailer for the Nelson Mandela biopic Madela: Long Walk to Freedom has been released.
The new Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom trailer includes U2’s new song “Ordinary Love,” their first song in three years. If you’re a fan of either Bono, Idris Alba, or Nelson Mandela himself, there’s likely something here for you. It premiered on the the film’s Facebook page, but we’ve embedded a YouTube link below.
The film will open to limited release on November 29. With the film so far away, not many reviews of the movie have been released yet since it’s only played at a few film festivals. Though reviews have been mixed, Idris Elba’s performance in the lead role has been received incredibly. As should be expected given his body of work, particularly recently, Elba gives a stellar performance. It’s possible he could receive a best actor nomination at this year’s Oscars for his performance.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom also stars Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela. Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva, and Jamie Bartlett also have important roles.
Here’s the official synopsis:
MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM is based on South African President Nelson Mandela’s autobiography of the same name, which chronicles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country’s once segregated society. Idris Elba (PROMETHEUS) stars as Nelson Mandela, Naomie Harris (SKYFALL) stars as Winnie Mandela, with Justin Chadwick (THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL) directing.
