We were beginning to think that the all-male Ghostbusters was dead in the water, but apparently the Russo Brothers are still pushing ahead — and it’s not all-male!
Update: Writer Drew Pearce has revealed a very important piece of information about the new Ghostbusters movie: the team will not be all-male, but rather mixed gender.
For the record, my GB idea has a mixed gender team. Also ghosts of all classes (I to VII). It's very inclusive that way.

Back in March when the news about this movie first broke, it was being touted as the all-male alternative to Paul Feig’s female-led Ghostbusters.
We’ll be interested in seeing which actresses might join Tatum and Pratt (if they are cast) for this mixed-gender team.
Pearce has also denied the existence of the Ghostbusters spin-offs that were rumored to be in development, as part of Sony’s cinematic universe plans. “There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise,” he said today. “As the producer of the new ‘Ghostbusters’ film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new ‘Ghostbusters’ movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise.”
Original story:
When Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters was announced, there was one major change assuring that this wouldn’t be your basic remake: the new team would be female, rather than male (as in the original movie).
After the expected outrage fizzled out, the general feeling around the project seems to be one of excitement. Feig is clearly very passionate about the source material, and the cast (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon) are all fantastic.
So when the Russo Brothers announced yet another Ghostbusters reboot, people were understandably confused.

The two separate movies would tie together, as part of a bigger move on Sony’s part: the studio is hoping to launch a Ghostbusters cinematic universe, headed by the new production company Ghostcorps.
It seemed like we’d have to wait a while for this movie, however: a few months back, Chris Pratt revealed in an interview that rumors of his involvement were grossly exaggerated, and Channing Tatum later claimed that the project had been put on the back-burner.
And of course, with the Russo Brothers carrying Marvel through Phase Three, no one could see how their schedule would allow for a Ghostbusters movie any time soon.
Enter Drew Pearce, the writer of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation who’s also tasked with penning the Russos’ Ghostbusters.
Speaking to MTV at the Mission Impossible premiere in New York City, Pearce stirred up a new batch of buzz (the green, gunky kind) about the other guys…
“I’ve finished my work on [the movie’s ‘bible’] in the last couple weeks,” he said. “Obviously it’s top secret, but there’s a gigantic bold idea that I came up with, and the Russo brothers and Ivan Reitman, who did the original movie, are going to take that and run with it. Obviously I cannot tell you what it is, but hopefully in one year’s time you’ll know!”

Responding to a question about whether they’re still trying to get Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt on board, Pearce said, “That’s definitely the cast we’ve been thinking about as we approach the project. Whether that happens or not is very much above my pay grade. It’s just my job to give them something exciting that maybe they’ll do.”
One thing’s for sure: with all these Ghostbusters running around New York City, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man doesn’t stand a chance.
