Netflix has announced Making a Murderer Part 2 will premiere on the streaming service on October 19 with a brand new teaser trailer.
True crime enthusiasts were blown away when the Netflix documentary Making a Murderer premiered back in 2015. The story of the murder of Teresa Halbach and the alleged wrongful conviction of Steven Avery turned all of us into amateur detectives, searching for the truth to what really happened to Ms. Halbach.
We’ve waited quite a while, but Netflix has finally announced the premiere date of Part 2 of the docu-series. Filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos return to the Midwest to follow up on the plight of Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey as they try to get their guilty verdicts overturned. Netflix released a short teaser trailer on Twitter to tease the new season and premiere date.

As Netflix explains, Making a Murderer Part 2 will be 10 episodes and will follow the emotional, high-stakes postconviction process for Avery and Dassey. Ricciardi and Demos, the writers, executive producers, and directors of the show explain that Making a Murderer Part 2 will perfectly build off of the story that unfolded in Part 1.
The two explained, “Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers.”
Making a Murderer Part 2 will introduce postconviction lawyers for both Avery and Dassey. Kathleen Zellner, an attorney that has righted more wrongful convictions than any private attorney in America, works to prove that Steven Avery was wrongly accused. Meanwhile, Brendan Dassey’s legal team comes from Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth with attorneys Laura Nirider and Steven Drizin.
We’re ready to see what is next for Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey, and hope that closure can finally come in this case for the family of Teresa Halbach. Making a Murderer Part 2 premieres on Netflix on October 19, so make sure you’re caught up!
