’80s cop shows are having a resurgence, with Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim developing a Magnum P.I. reboot for CBS.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that CBS has ordered a reboot of the procedural cop drama Magnum P.I., which was created by the late Glen A. Larson and starred Tom Selleck and his famous moustache.

The reboot will be created by Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim, who also brought us the re-imagined Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver.
Now, attentive readers might recall that this is not the only Magnum P.I. reboot attempt in recent years: in 2016, it was announced that ABC was developing a female-centric version of the series, which unfortunately did not get picked up. As this is CBS, we can probably expect the new reboot to keep it all-male.
Described as an “update” of the original, the series re-imagines Selleck’s character Thomas Magnum as an ex-Navy SEAL who returns from Afghanistan and becomes a private investigator. Writes THR:
“Action, adventure and comedy aside, the new Magnum P.I. will also explore a brotherhood forged by the trauma of combat, what it means to return home an ex-soldier and a commitment to continuing to serve while in the private sector.”
