Lupita Nyong’o and Natalie Portman are joining forces to star in a brand new limited series coming down the pipeline at Apple TV+.
Apple announced on Wednesday (March 10), that it has given a straight to series order to a brand new limited series titled Lady in the Lake.
The series, which hails by Alma Har’el, is based off of author Laura Lippman’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name.
Set in the 1960s out in Baltimore, the story focuses on Maddie Schwartz— a mother and a housewife who is inspired by an unsolved murder to become an investigative journalist. It’s then that she finds her path crossing with that of Cleo Sherwood— a working mother, who also happens to be incredibly committed to advancing Baltimore’s Black progressive agenda.

For the limited series, Portman will play Maddie Schwartz, while Nyong’o will take on the role of Cleo Sherwood. In addition to starring in the forthcoming Apple Original series, both of the Academy Award winning actresses will serve as executive producers on the project along with Dre Ryan.
Ryan is also set to team with Har’el to co-create and co-write the series.
Crazyrose and Bad Wolf America will also produce alongside Apple. Others involved behind the camera include Christopher Leggett, Sophie Mas, Jean-Marc Vallee, Nathan Ross, Juile Gardner, and author Laura Lippman, all of whom will also serve as producers on the project.
Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to see the Lady in the Lake adaptation starring Lupita Nyong’o and Natalie Portman debut via Apple TV+.
