The book to film adaptation of Becky Albertalli’s Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda arrives in March 2018, and two Love, Simon movie trailers have us swooning!
Though Fox shied away from bringing the book’s title to the big screen, they’re not avoiding bringing up the gay storyline in the promotional material. Yes, Simon is a story about a closeted kid played by Nick Robinson. It’s the first story about a gay kid getting a wide release from a major Hollywood studio.
The first trailer doesn’t get into the fact that Simon’s in regular communication with a gay pen pal — a key part of the book — but it does show the protagonist kissing a boy and pondering his sexuality. There’s also a great scene at the end in which he wonders why straight people don’t have to come out like the gays do.
The second Love Simon trailer, released January 16, explains the e-mail plot line and is funnier and cuter than the first:
The Love Simon soundtrack looks to be pretty special as well. Former Fun. band member and current Bleachers lead Jack Antonoff revealed that he’s curating the music for the movie:
very proud to announce that i am curating and making new music for the film LOVE, SIMON (@lovesimonmovie). this film means a great deal to me and am honored to have worked on it

Love, Simon hits theaters March 16, 2018 and is directed by Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti. We can’t wait to support this film!
The movie’s synopsis: Everyone deserves a great love story. But for seventeen-year old Simon Spier it’s a little more complicated: he’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing. Directed by Greg Berlanti (Dawson’s Creek, Brothers & Sisters), written by Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger (This is Us), and based on Becky Albertalli’s acclaimed novel, LOVE, SIMON is a funny and heartfelt coming-of-age story about the thrilling ride of finding yourself and falling in love.
