Little House on the Prairie is the latest title set to receive the reboot treatment.
According to Deadline, Paramount Television is teaming up with Anonymous Content and Friendly Family Productions to develop a reboot of the classic television series, Little House on the Prairie.
The original family drama series, which first debuted via NBC back in 1974, is an adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic children’s novels of the same name.
Running for a total of nine season before wrapping up in 1982, the NBC adaptation was set in the late 1800s and followed the story of the Ingalls’ family’s life living on a farm located in Plum Creek, Minnesota.
News of a Little House on the Prairie reboot comes hot on the heels of word that Peacock recently made all nine season of the original series adaptation available to stream via its platform.
A Little House on the Prairie reboot seems like a smart move for all involved. In fact, it feels as though there’s never been a better time for Wilder’s beloved classic to return to the small screen.
Period pieces seem to be on the rise out in Hollywood where titles such as Greta Gerwig’s take on Little Women have premiered to critical acclaim. It’s a trend that’s seeping over onto the small screen as well with titles such as Netflix’s Anne with an E (an adaptation of L.M. Montgomery’s Canadian classic, Anne of Green Gables) garnering a passionate fanbase.
Though the latter was prematurely cancelled about a year ago by both Netflix and CBC, a fan petition pleading for renewal (which has garnered over 1.4 million signatures to date) is pretty solid proof to show that there’s certainly demand for feel good period dramas suitable for all ages.
With that in mind, we’re sure that if and when the Little House on the Prairie reboot does premiere, it’ll do so to an excited audience eager to tune in.
