Lionsgate has released a synopsis for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, and unsurprisingly it follows what you read in the book.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t clue us in on where the film could possibly be split, but with the film eight months away, we appreciate the baby step toward release.
The Mockingjay – Part 1 synopsis reads, “The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of Commander Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.”
It continues by offering background details: “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.”

One could argue that this synopsis proves the film will carry us as far as giving Peeta some resolution since they specifically mention that Katniss will try to “save” him.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens in theaters this November. Only the teaser poster has been released so far, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see additional material surface soon (new posters were coming out this time last year for Catching Fire – another November release). Meanwhile, Catching Fire hits DVD and Blu-ray at the end of this week.
