Coronavirus concerns, cancellations and closures got you down? If so, Lin-Manuel Miranda is hoping to boost your mood with a brand new song the Hamilton creator just released for free.
As Lin-Manuel Miranda would say, it’s been a bit of a day. But amidst the news of movie cancellations, Broadway closures, and theme park shut downs due to growing concerns about the Coronavirus, Miranda is hoping to offer fans a bit of something good.
The Tony Award winner took to Twitter to share a brand new previously unreleased cut track from Hamilton in an effort to cheer up those who might be feeling some type of way at the moment.
“I wish I could send you peace of mind via this app. Alas. But I can send you some music no one’s heard,” tweeted Miranda on Thursday (March 12) evening. “Here’s a cut Hamilton/Washington tune called I Have This Friend. No one’s heard it, not even Kail. Funnier if you picture me and @ChrisisSingin singing it.”

In addition to offering up a bit of context for the previously unreleased cut track, Lin-Manuel Miranda also linked fans to Soundcloud where they can stream “I Have This Friend” for free.
The new song couldn’t come at a better time for musical theater fans— especially given today’s announcement of Broadway’s plans to go dark in an effort to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.
