TBS has just ordered a pilot from Master of None‘s Lena Waithe called Twenties about three female friends.
Lena Waithe has been absolutely rocking it lately with her work on Netflix’s Master of None and Showtime’s The Chi. She became the first African-American woman to win an Emmy in comedy writing back in 2017 for her work on Master of None, and it seems her hard work is continuing to pay off with a new pilot order from TBS.

Waithe’s show, Twenties, centers around the life of Hattie, a young, Black woman, and her two, straight best friends. This is a story Waithe has wanted to tell for some time. As Waithe told Variety, she first penned the pilot script back in 2009.
We’re so excited to see some more content from Waithe. Her work on Master of None has been utterly groundbreaking, and Twenties sounds like it has a refreshingly original story to tell from the voice of someone whose doesn’t always get the time in the spotlight they deserve.
As Waithe explained, this story was an important one for her to tell, and she is so grateful that TBS gave her a platform to tell this story. “Queer black characters have been the sidekick for long enough,” Waithe told Variety, “it’s time for us to finally take the lead.”
We couldn’t agree more, and we can’t wait to see what is in store for in the pilot for Twenties. Things are still in very early stages for the show, so there is no word on casting just yet. However, TBS has been doing a great job creating a solid comedy lineup, so Waithe’s new comedy should feel right at home alongside other comedies like People of Earth, The Detour, and the late-night talk show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
