Star and creator of Girls Lena Dunham and co-executive producer/partner Jenni Konner are developing a new series for HBO. The show will be based on the life of Bergdorf Goodman’s long-time personal shopper, Betty Halbreich.

At only 26 years old, Lena Dunham is becoming unstoppable. And at 85 years old, Betty Halbreich is still fabulously dressed and now inspiring a new HBO series. Based on her upcoming memoir, All Dressed Up And Everywhere To Go, Halbreich has spent decades of her life playing stylist to many of New York’s best-dressed stars. She launched her own personal shopping service, based out of Bergdorf’s, in 1976.

The saucy stylist also helped inspire the signature outfits of another familiar HBO hit series, Sex and the City, as well as developing outfits for early Woody Allen films. In addition, her fashion consultation has been sought from glamorous starlets like Meryl Streep, Katie Close, Glenn Close, Joan Rivers, and Sarah Jessica Parker (all known for their spot-on sartorial choices).

All Dressed Up And Everywhere To Go was optioned by HBO, and Dunham and Konner agreed to team up to write the project, focusing on Halbreich’s long history in the fashion world. There isn’t any confirmation of whether Dunham will act in the series, though we think that she’ll just stick to writing this time around.

Dunham and Konner, along with Judd Apatow, executive produce the hit series Girls, which has formally been renewed for a third season.

We can only hope that the witty, biting humor of Girls will be translated over to the new series about Halbreich’s life. There are several familiar elements, including the New York setting and the privileged characters (a criticism widely held about Girls).

What do you think?! Will you watch a series about the stylist of New York’s rich and famous?
