The Waverider will be filling up, as DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will be adding two new series regulars in season 2.
Though Legends of Tomorrow still has two episodes left in its freshman season, we’re beginning to get casting news for season 2. TVLine reports that the season will be adding one new male and one new female character to the roster.
The new male character is in his late-20s to mid-30s. His grandfather was a World War II hero, leading to his own insecurity. He has used a “Han Solo-like facade” to make this insecurity, but then he develops superpowers, which allows him to live up to his grandfather’s legacy.
A couple theories about who this is include Jack Knight and Nathan Heywood. Jack Knight, aka Starman, is the son of the original Starman. While the comic book character is the son, not grandson, of a hero, the original Starman was a member of the Justice Society of America in the 1940s so grandson would make more sense today. Nathan Heywood, aka Citizen Steel, meanwhile, is the grandson of Commander Steel, who was also active during World War II, even preventing the assassination of Winston Churchill.
The new female character for Legends season 2 is a “member of an elite paramilitary team living in the 1940s.” This character is African-American, so she must work twice as hard as other soldiers to overcome her race and gender in the eyes of other soldiers. Additionally, “she blames herself for — and aims to avenge — the death of a team member for whom she had repressed feelings.”
One theory for her identity is Zinda Blake, aka Lady Blackhawk. Zinda is a member of the World War II aviator team the Blackhawk Squadron. She eventually is brought to the present time, where she joins the Birds of Prey team.
We have no news about whether any of the current cast members of Legends will be leaving, opening up their seats on the Waverider, or if we’ll just have an even larger cast in season 2. The final two episodes of season 1 should tell us a lot.
Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
