The CW has scheduled two half-hour specials about DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and the upcoming DC Comics films respectively.
After the mid-season premiere of The Flash on Tuesday, January 19, The CW will air DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time Is Now at 9:00 p.m. ET and DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League at 9:30 p.m. ET. Additionally, a new Suicide Squad trailer will air during Dawn of the Justice League.
DC’S Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time Is Now will explore the heroes and villains of the upcoming series, which premieres on Thursday, January 21 at 8:00 p.m. Nearly all the characters on Legends have already been introduced via The Flash and Arrow, but Arthur Darvill’s Rip Hunter remains a mystery.
This special will feature clips from the series as well as interviews with executive producers of the respective Arrow-verse shows: Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer and Wendy Mericle.
The synopsis for Legends of Tomorrow reads:
“When heroes alone are not enough … the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?”
Meanwhile, DC Films Presents: Dawn Of The Justice League will look at the upcoming slate of DC films, including Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman as well as premiering the new Suicide Squad trailer.
It’s interesting that The CW is airing specials for both the DC Comics television and film properties, as there has been a distinct effort to keep the two universes separate — including having two different Flashes, Grant Gustin on television and Ezra Miller in the films — unlike Marvel, which has established a single continuity for both the films and television.
