Kevin Feige has finally set the record straight on when Marvel fans can expect to get their first look at footage from Captain Marvel.
After it was reported that some behind-the-scenes footage released at CineEurope for Captain Marvel, the MCU fandom began speculating when footage would be circulated for the rest of us. Surely the CineEurope release meant it had to be coming soon, right? Well, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, we’ve still got a bit of a wait until our first in-depth look at Carol Danvers in action.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Feige revealed that fans might have to wait a bit longer still before seeing any footage from the film. Feige estimated there was still, “a few months on it,” before fans could expect to see any widely-released Captain Marvel footage.
However, according to Feige, the fandom already knows everything that it needs to know at this point. “You already know as much as you need to. We’ve got Skrulls, we’ve got the Kree, it takes place in the ’90s, you have Sam Jackson with two eyes and Carol Danvers, a unique telling of Carol Danvers origin story.”
Of course, Feige himself has hyped Carol Danvers’ importance in the future of the MCU, calling her someone “very, very important” to the future of the Marvel franchise. So even though we might know everything Feige thinks we need to know at this point, it’s not surprising that fans aren’t satisfied with just that.
Feige’s comments make it seem unlikely that we’ll see a Captain Marvel trailer before Ant-Man and the Wasp when it premieres on July 6. And while that is a bummer, it does make sense that Marvel is trying to not prematurely usurp the introduction of one new hero in Evangeline Lilly’s The Wasp by shifting the focus to Captain Marvel.
So, for now, it seems that we have to wait a bit longer before Marvel grants us our first glimpse at Carol Danvers in all her ’90s glory, but let’s just hope they don’t make us wait too long. Captain Marvel premieres in theaters in March of 2019.
