Fans of DC’s animated shows will be hyped by the latest news out of The CW’s panel at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. The iconic voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, will be reprising his role as Bruce Wayne for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover.
As confirmed by The CW in a press release, Conroy — who has voiced Bruce Wayne and Batman in everything from Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox and more — will be playing a version of Bruce Wayne who hails from the future.
Batman has been alluded to over the course of the Arrowverse shows on The CW, but has yet to appear. While Conroy’s version of Batman may have already hung up his cowl, this will still mark the first time Bruce Wayne will be involved in an official capacity. This event will also be the first time that Conroy will play the character in a live-action show.
The CW did not say whether Conroy’s Wayne would hail from the same Earth as the main continuity of Arrowverse characters, or hail from a separate one — much in the same way as Supergirl, a.k.a. Kara Zor-El.
The Crisis on Infinite Earth crossover will be the Arrowverse’s most ambitious crossover to date. Not only will it feature the aforementioned guest appearance from Conroy as Bruce Wayne, but also characters from Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning.
The schedule for the Crisis on Infinite Earths event was also announced, and will take place over the course of five episodes throughout December and into January.
Supergirl – Sunday, December 8, 2019 (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT)
Batwoman – Monday, December 9, 2019 (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT)
The Flash – Tuesday, December 10, 2019 (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT)
Arrow – Tuesday, January 14, 2020 (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT)
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Tuesday, January 14, 2020 (9:00-10:00pm ET/PT)
With Brandon Routh also making an appearance as a Kingdom Come-inspired version of Superman, it would not be much of a stretch to assume that Conroy’s Bruce Wayne might be intended to complement that character. With Conroy playing a future, older version of the character, expect plenty of nods to Batman Beyond.
The Arrowverse shows return to The CW, beginning with Batwoman and Supergirl, on October 6.
