Kal Penn and The Good Place’s Michael Schur are teaming up for a brand new comedy at NBC.
According to Deadline, NBC has given a put pilot commitment to a brand new comedy from The Good Place and Parks & Rec creator Michael Schur. The new series would star Kal Penn who is also on board to the new comedy.
Matt Murray, who like Schur has an overall deal with NBC, is also on board to co-write the show alongside Penn.
Currently, the new NBC comedy is without a title, but we do know a bit about what the show will be about. The new series is being pegged as an Immigrant comedy.
It’ll focus on a disgraced New York City councilman and former baseball wunderkind named Garrett Shah (Penn). The series will tell the story of how Shah finds his calling after he comes face to face with six recent immigrants all in search of the American Dream.
Penn, Schur and Murray will also serve as executive producers on the new series.
Though it’s currently unclear when we might see the new series debut on NBC, fans of Penn won’t have to wait long to see him back on the small screen.
The actor, who also notably worked in the White House during the Obama administration, is gearing up to return to the world of politics as part of the cast of the political drama, Designated Survivor where he portrays the character Seth Wright.
ABC pulled the plug on the thrilling, Keifer Sutherland-led series earlier this year, but lucky for fans of the show, Netflix was quick to swoop it up.
Designated Survivor season 3 is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2019.
