Disney’s theme parks are always a hugely immersive experience, from the sets, to the characters, to the music. Now, for their Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge park, they’ve lined up the perfect composer: John Williams.
Entertainment Weekly first shared the news that Williams would be providing the musical stylings for guests visiting the Star Wars park. As Williams has become synonymous with the franchise, his composing a new score entirely for the upcoming park will give fans even more reason to visit. Not that anyone needs more of an excuse to make the trip.
A video featuring a sneak-peek at Williams’ newest score was also released, along with some aerial footage of the parks at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. The score was recently recorded at Abbey Road Studios by the London Symphony Orchestra, and was conducted by a longtime associate of Williams’, William Ross.
Disney had announced previously that the world featured in the park would be called Batuu, but further details were revealed about Black Spire, a village located on the planet. “Black Spire is a remote trading outpost tucked amid the rocky spikes of an ancient petrified forest,” EW wrote. “The town serves as a Casablanca-like nexus between the forces of good, evil, and in between as they clash over control of the galaxy.”
Other first-looks included a video showcasing the highly anticipated rides that will be at the park, the first of which will be called Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The decisions that you make during your escape from Batuu aboard the Falcon will affect your score and reputation inside the trading outpost, which will provide a whole other layer of immersion to the experience. Guests will take one of three possible roles on the Falcon to ensure the mission’s success.
The second ride, called Rise of the Resistance, will have guests “experience what it’s like to be caught in the crossfire of a deep-space battle between the First Order and the X-Wing dogfighters of the Resistance.”
The footage in the above video was shot inside the finished ride, giving the best look yet at what guests can expect in the park. You will be able to explore the hangar bay and control deck of a First Order destroyer, and even come face-to-face with Kylo Ren.
Two additional images of the Star Wars themed hotel were also revealed, with a few more details about what that experience will be like.
Guests will enjoy a “multiday experience that immerses visitors amid characters inhabiting an orbiting luxury starship.”
As seen in the above concept art, “The journey begins with guests boarding a shuttle pod that transports them from Earth to their hotel in space.”
