How well do you know the wise words of J.K. Rowling? Take our quiz to see if you can pick out which quotes come from the Harry Potter books and which are attributed to the great lady in real life.
J.K. Rowling has put many wonderful words out into the world, through her books and also in her time speaking as a public figure. Whether it’s Dumbledore speaking or just plain Jo, Rowling’s wit and wisdom will go down in history.
In honor of Rowling’s birthday — which she shares with her hero Harry — we’ve compiled some of the author’s best quotes, both from real life and from the pages of Harry Potter.
All these meaningful moments came from the same place originally — the brain of our beloved queen — but can you tell which of these quotes come from the Harry Potter books, and which were said by J. K. Rowling herself? Take our quiz and find out.
Naturally, there are many famous quotes from the Harry Potter series that are far too obvious to ever trip you up in a quiz. One of our most cherished moments, exemplifying all that fiction can and should be, is also the author’s own favorite line: “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
As for J.K. Rowling speaking for herself, the commencement address she gave at Harvard in 2008 was a memorable moment. This speech, entitled The Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination, was later published as a book. “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better,” was one of the most powerful quotes from this piece.
