Today marks 20 years since the (fictional) Battle of Hogwarts took place in the Wizarding World, where Harry Potter finally defeated Lord Voldemort.
Over the past few years Rowling has marked the occasion by apologizing for one character she’s killed in the series. This year it’s Dobby. Did she read my apology wishlist from last year?
It's that anniversary again. This year, I apologise for killing someone who didn't die during the #BattleofHogwarts, but who laid down his life to save the people who'd win it. I refer, of course, to Dobby the house elf.

Dobby’s death was a shocker — how could she kill such a sweet, sweet little elf? The scene in the movie was just as emotional as the one in the book:
The annual apology began in 2015 when Rowling said sorry for killing Fred. In 2016 it was Lupin, and in 2017 it was Snape.
The apologies don’t exactly mean much, but they may be therapeutic for those of us who still aren’t over certain Harry Potter series deaths.
