Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel had a surprise announcement Thursday night: He’s running for Vice President.
In a hilarious segment on his Thursday night show, Kimmel ‘announced’ his Vice-Presidential candidacy:
Kimmel wants to be “a good, solid #2,” which really is a good benchmark for anything in life.
“Over the years I’ve laughed with you, I’ve cried with you, I’ve made your children cry on Halloween. I’ve done my best to serve you the only way I knew how.”
“The future of our democracy is slipping through our fat, buttery hands!” he declares. “Millions of people are scared. Worried about what’s to come. But not one ever has to be scared again.”
He even takes audience questions, proclaiming that he is indeed “the realest.” When asked why he doesn’t just run for President he says, “that is because I am not an egomaniac, I am humble like Mother Teresa.”
As for knowing anything about politics… does anyone?
He plays the segment out with “Vice, vice baby.”
Of course this is totally against all the rules, but Jimmy Kimmel gives no f**ks, proceeding to ask Shonda Rhimes and Kerry Washington for their blessing (which they don’t give him):
…And showing him leading in the polls, cause, you know, no one else is campaigning to be VP.
Of course Jimmy isn’t actually running, because running for Vice Preident is not a thing.
But what’s great about this, aside from being hilarious, is that it shines a spotlight on the ridiculous way in which celebrity and politics mix in the media, allowing people like Donald Trump a ‘pop culture’ voice to lend them political legitimacy.
Jimmy Kimmel for VP 2016? Sure. Why the hell not?
