Jill Monroe on ‘The Wrong Bed: Naked Pursuit’:
No one is slower than the person popping popcorn when you’re waiting to watch a movie. In this case, the person waiting was me and the movie was The Wrong Bed: Naked Pursuit — the movie Lifetime recently turned into a movie from my 2016 book from Harlequin.
“Do we really need popcorn?” I call to my husband, who I’m fairly certain was measuring out the popcorn kernel by kernel.
But finally he’s beside me, lights dimmed, dog occupied and we press play on the remote.
“This needs more butter,” he says as he presses pause.
Okay, in reality, he probably was less than 5 minutes and he’s wonderful, but there’s nothing like sitting down and watching a movie – where screenwriters have taken your idea and actors are speaking your words and creating something completely new. Time is slowed.
This experience has been amazing. It’s fun to see what things I wrote translate from page to screen, and cool to spot the tweaks, twists and added subplots of the screenwriters.
Many people ask how I reacted when I found out my book had been turned into a movie. It was something like:
Scream. Cry tears of joy. Scream again. Call someone, anyone. Scream some more. Call everyone you know. Scream. Pace. Call the cousin of a friend of a friend. Scream. Post online. Pace. Cry tears of joy. Forget to sleep. Go to the store. Tell the cashier. Celebrate with chocolate. Pace. Check the post online. Wonder who is going to star in your movie. Look up best looking actors. Make a list of the best candidates. Find out the movie has already been made. Throw out your list.
The cast is amazing. I’ve been a fan of Jewel Staite since, Firefly. Seeing her as Stella and Lisa Berry (Supernatural) as Larissa gives me a special kind of cool with my kids. Corey Sevier plays firefighter Owen Michaels so well, protective and supportive, but Stella is the star of her own story, and I love that Jewel and Lifetime kept it just that way.
Handcuffs.
A sexy stranger.
What did she do last night?
All that’s there, plus a fun subplot added just for Lifetime! I’m actually going to post a fun contest just for my newsletter subscribers – spot the differences between the book and the movie. You can sign up for my newsletter here!
If you love a good party, fun along with some giveaways, I’ll be hosting a party on Facebook the night before the movie airs along with 30 authors. You can check it all out here!
