When we learned last month that former Daily Show correspondent and diehard Harry Potter fan Jessica Williams was cast in Fantastic Beasts 2, we were excited but not necessarily surprised.
Her passion for Potter, which began when she was in elementary school, culminated earlier this year when she met J.K. Rowling. A friendship between the two, who share a birthday and a love for The Sims video game, quickly blossomed.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly we get to hear how her casting exactly came together.
“I hung out with J.K. [Rowling], and she had reached out to me a couple of days after we met. She sent me these emails about this really amazing character that she had been working on,” she said. “That’s pretty much how it all got started. It’s really exciting.”
Williams said she is heading to the set of Fantastic Beasts 2 very soon to start her new gig. “It’s like my wildest dream,” she said. “I could not have fathomed that when I was in the fourth grade reading these books, there would be a character I play that exists in this universe. It’s insane to me.”
Pottermore formally announced her casting in October, but they didn’t reveal the name of her character or anything about her role. Needless to say, we’re very excited to see what she’ll be up to in the Fantastic Beasts sequel.
The movie hits theaters November 2018.
