Jessica Chastain could be facing off against Pennywise the dancing clown in the highly anticipated It sequel.
According to Variety, Jessica Chastain is currently in negotiations to star in the upcoming sequel to last year’s critically acclaimed remake of Stephen King’s It.
Chastain’s commitment to the sequel isn’t fully set in stone, as negotiations are in the very early stages, but her potential involvement is definitely cause for excitement.
As fans of director Andy Muschietti’s rendition of It know, the award-winning actress was one of the director’s top picks to play an adult version of Beverly (portrayed in the 2017 horror flick by Sophia Lillis).
The pair have also worked together in the past on Muschietti’s previous film, Mama, so it would be fun to see the two team up again.
Currently, the script for the It sequel is in development, but thanks to an interview Muschietti gave last year, we know a bit about what he’d like to take on in the second chapter of the story.
“The thing I want to bring in the next film that I couldn’t do here is the dialogue between the two timelines. That was so important in the book and we didn’t get to explore that here, but I wanted to keep the story of the kids as pure and without interference as I could,” said Muschietti in an interview last year with Variety. “The dialogue between those two timelines with all those flashbacks is so important to the book that I want to bring that back.”
It the sequel is expected to hit theaters on September 6, 2019.
