Supernatural vet Jensen Ackles will soon be suiting up for The Boys on Amazon Prime!
Supernatural may finally be coming to a close, but it won’t be long before fans can catch actor Jensen Ackles on another hit series.
On Monday (August 17), Ackles took to Instagram to reveal that he has officially joined the cast of The Boys season 3 on Amazon Prime.
“I keep wondering what I’ll do…when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year. Then it hit me,” wrote the actor in the caption of the post.
The video announcement, which you can watch below, features a pensive looking Ackles who quite literally almost gets pelted with a copy of the bestselling comic book the series is based off of.
The video ends with Elvis Presley’s “Soldier Boy,” cluing fans in to the character Ackles is set to play as part of the series’ third season.
That Ackles would indeed be portraying Soldier Boy in the hit Amazon Prime series was later confirmed via a press release sent out by the studio.
In the comic, Soldier Boy is described as the original superhero. After he fights in World War II, he becomes the first celebrity, and a mainstay of American culture for decades.
In a statement announcing Jensen Ackles’ involvement, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke spoke of how excited he is to bring the actor on board for the show’s third season.
“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true,” said Kripke. “
Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.”
Currently, there’s no word yet on when season 3 will debut via Amazon Prime, but fans can look forward to the upcoming debut of The Boys season 2 on Friday, September 4.
