Let’s start with the most buzz-worthy piece of news. We might actually get visual confirmation that Jar Jar Binks, universally considered the most hated Star Wars character, has passed on.
As Abrams is working in the editing suite at the moment, he reflects that while nothing with Jar Jar has been shot (thank the heavens), “I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks bones in the desert there. I’m serious! Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it.”
We’ve got a feeling a lot of people would notice that, actually.
But be careful what you wish for. Have you seen Starkid’s Ani musical parody yet? Jar Jar Binks’ fate might be more emotional than you were prepared for!

In the interview, Abrams also talks about his commitment to the imperfect, puppet alien characters so popular in the original trilogy.
“It’s so old-school and crazy,” Abrams says of a Jawa-like creature they’ve put into a desert scene. “We could improve this thing, but at some point do we lose the wonderful preposterousness?”
On Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Abrams reflects, “He was excited to get back in those shoes again, which was really interesting because I thought he hadn’t been a fan. I kept hearing those rumors when I was a kid.”
But you can look forward to Han Solo being a lot less… er, growly, in this one. “I knew that he had done in some movies a kind of more growly thing, and I didn’t want Han to be growly,” Abrams insists. “There was a fire in his eyes that you see in the movie.”
