The Cuckoo’s Calling, J.K. Rowling’s new book which she secretly published in April, has reached the top spot on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
The August 4 New York Times Best Seller “Combined Print & E-Book Fiction” list has The Cuckoo’s Calling in the number one position. It is its first week on the list and is followed by The English Girl by Daniel Silva, First Sight by Danielle Steel, Inferno by Dan Brown, and Hunting Eve by Iris Johansen.
The Cuckoo’s Calling is also number one on the “E-Book” list. Its success there was probably guided in part by the fact that the book was so hard to get a physical copy of following Rowling’s surprise announcement in mid-July, when booksellers were not prepared for the sudden demand.
The book is not faring as well on the “Hardcover Fiction” list. The English Girl and Inferno are ahead of Cuckoo’s Calling.
Last week we told you that Rowling’s second post-Potter novel appeared at the number one spot on USA Today’s Best Selling Books list.
Rowling was forced to reveal she secretly published The Cuckoo’s Calling earlier this month when a reporter for The Sunday Times received a tip about the real person behind the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Rowling was “very angry” at the leak.
The Cuckoo’s Calling follows the mystery surrounding the alleged suicide of a famous supermodel. The woman’s brother believes that, contrary to popular belief, someone pushed her over a balcony.
