Mary Kate Wiles is back for the second half of our exclusive interview, this time talking Squaresville, and answering fan questions about School of Thrones, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Lord of the Rings and more.
It is part two of our exclusive interview with web series royalty, Mary Kate Wiles. In part one we discussed the end of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, what we might expect in the finale of School of Thrones, and the possibility of more episodes. Wiles also talked exclusively to Hypable about her disappointment in not being cast as Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars movie, particularly in response to the recent casting announcement of Shailene Woodley.
Hypable’s interview with Mary Kate Wiles:
Hypable: How have you been enjoying people’s reactions to Squaresville season 2?
Mary Kate Wiles: It’s been good. Obviously there’s a lot of different elements thrown in in season 2 and people seem to like it. I really love the monologues, I think they are really cool and people seem to have responded to them so well.
This last episode that was mostly Zelda [Wiles’ character] and Wayne [played by David Ryan Speer] was my personal favourite episode of the season so far. When I read that scene, the makeout scene in her bedroom, I just thought it was the funniest thing. I hope people think it’s funny, because when she goes, “Okay, let me set a timer.” Everybody seems to be responding to it well so I am really happy.
Matt [Enlow, creator] released some preview pictures for our next episode, which is a cosplay episode, and I’m Spock. Which is so weird and not something I ever thought I would do, but I am glad he released those, it is getting people excited. That episode may turn the tides for Squaresville, it’s going to be so cool. We cosplay as seven or eight different characters each, it’s going to be really neat.
Can we have some hints for any of the other characters?
I didn’t know that he was going to release those pictures so soon, but it’s in the preview, you can see it. I can say that there are some other really popular fantasy/sci-fi shows, and also some older, more obscure things that we cosplay as. It’s fun, it’s a really great mix of all kinds of stuff. I think Matt is going to release a few more pictures before the episode comes out, so you may get some more hints.
I think in that episode I cosplay as mostly dudes and one girl, or a couple girls. It’s so weird, again something I never thought I would be doing but it’s really fun. I love that we got to do stuff like that in season 2 and there’s more – there’s another episode in the future that is also kind of out there, and that wasn’t stuff we go to do in the first season, so it’s exciting to explore those things.
Do you know how many episodes there will be in season 2?
I think it’s about the same as the first season, there are about 16 or so. The schedule is going to take us all the way into August or September. It’s weird because School of Thrones ends Sunday, unless we do more, and Lizzie Bennet ends actually on my birthday next week, and then Squaresville will continue on for some time.
Is there any talk about doing a Squaresville DVD?
I’m not sure about that actually. I’m sure it’s something we have thought about. I know that there’s a lot of things that go into making a DVD. I guess not for now, but maybe in the future they are going to want to compile the seasons and stuff, I hope so, I think that would be cool.
