It looks like the If I Stay movie is finally going to make it to the big screen. Not only that, but author Gayle Forman has essentially confirmed that the film will star Chloe Moretz as Mia.
Posting on her Tumblr, Gayle Forman has more or less confirmed that Mia will be played by none other than Chloe Moretz. It is a rumour that has been floating around the internet for months – and Forman knows it, saying “I’m not supposed to say who she is until the deal is finalized, but she’s the same star who’s been rumored to be attached for ages. You can google her.”
When asked about the If I Stay movie at the Reading Matters conference in Melbourne Australia on Saturday 1 June, Forman added that while she couldn’t name the actress, she was completely “kick-ass,” an illusion to Moretz’s starring role of Hit-Girl in the Kick-Ass films.
If I Stay will be directed by RJ Cutler, whose previous work includes The September Issue and Nashville. Forman reported on her blog that when discussing the film, Cutler had made her cry. Expanding on this at Reading Matters, she explained that Cutler told her “God is everywhere in this book. Well, not God per se, but spirituality,” which proved to Forman that he knew what he was doing. Of the novel itself, Forman added that “it was a beautiful, joyous, transcendent experience to write it.”
The film adaptation will beginning filming this fall. As yet, no other casting has been announced, although we imagine once Moretz is officially signed and confirmed, they will get started.
In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck…
A sophisticated, layered, and heart-achingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make, and the ultimate choice Mia commands.
