This Gandalf news just made the Lord of the Rings TV series a lot more intriguing!
Now that a multi-season Lord of the Rings TV series has been confirmed, there’s a lot of speculation surrounding what it will be about, and which characters and actors will be involved.

Well, Sir Ian McKellan provided his own take, when he appeared on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2 show to promote his performance in The Exorcist on the West End. He was asked about the possibility of there being another Gandalf, and he smartly replied, “what do you mean, another Gandalf?”
Unfortunately, McKellan confirmed that he hasn’t yet been asked to reprise his role in the Lord of the Rings TV series. He added, “I haven’t said yes because I haven’t been asked, but are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it?” It’s spectacular how genuinely taken aback he was by the mere suggestion that somebody else would step into the wizard’s shoes.
It’s not even confirmed yet that the character of Gandalf will appear in the new Lord of the Rings TV series, but since the story will take place prior to Frodo’s quest, and they are already talking about potential spin-offs, it’s all but guaranteed.
If McKellan is really as keen to reprise the role as this interview makes it seem, they’d be foolish not to bring him on. We’re sure the Lord of the Rings series will be great, no matter what, but the more ties to the original series, the better!
