Big Hit and Mnet’s I-LAND episode 4 revealed who was cut after their second test, as well as their next test that could result in half of the members being replaced again!
If you haven’t watched the show before, you can learn more about the members with their profiles and blank interviews.
At the start of I-LAND episode 4, the producers watched the GROUND members show of their performance of “Fire.” The group, that was lead by Jay, did so well that the producers wished they could send all of the members up to I-LAND. The judges felt that their teamwork and synergy was showcased better than the other group.
Back in I-LAND the members were shown the top six scorers for their test. This included EJ with 70 points, Sunoo with 71 points, Taki with 75 points, Sunghoon with 80 points, Heeseung with 83 points, and K with 88 points.
The I-Land overall team score came out to 78 points, which meant that 4 members would have to be voted out.
As a reward for coming in first place, K was given the exemption card which would allow him to save himself or someone else from being sent down to GROUND.
However, if the card was used than someone else from the team would have to take the place of the person that was saved. In other words, four of the members were going to be dropped out from the team because of their team score either way.
The members were given two hours to contemplate who they would vote to be eliminated from I-Land. For K, that also meant two hours to decide if he wanted to use his exemption card or not. He eventually came to the decision that he would only use the card to save Taki, who he considered to be like a little brother.
After the two hours are over, they gathered together once again to learn who was voted out. The results were that Yoonwon (11 votes), Taeyong (10 votes), Sunoo (8 votes), and Jungwon (5 votes) were to be eliminated.
After the elimination votes were revealed, K was given the option to use his exemption card. Despite his original plans, K decided to use the exemption card in order to save Jungwon. Stating that he wanted to help Jungwon because he respected his skills, mindset, and kind heart.
Because K decided to use the exemption card they then had to learn who would take the place as the final dropout. Once it was revealed that Taki was the final dropout they were all shocked. K and Taki were both emotional to find out that the decision had caused them to be separated.
Still emotional from seeing their friends leaving, the I-Land members waited to find out who would be joining them from GROUND. They were happy to see Jay, Jake, Youngbin, and Kyungmin joining them this time.
Once everyone had settled into their training camps the next test was revealed! The trainees would be forming representative units for their teams to battle against each other. Each team would form vocal representatives (2 trainees) and dance representatives (3 trainees).
If the I-LAND members are able to win the test, none of them would be eliminated from the group. However, if the GROUND members are able to win the test, than six of them would move up to replace the I-Landers.
For I-LAND Geonu and Heeseung form the vocal representatives — while Jay, K, and Jungwon form the dance representatives. For GROUND Sunoo and Sungchul form the vocal representatives — while Niki, Nicholas, and Jaeho form the dance representatives.
With only six days to prepare for the test, the trainees began to practice immediately!
Because they sometimes ended up switching parts for their tests, the I-LAND members decided that they should all learn the songs and practice just in case. This also allowed the sub units to bond and get even closer. The 2002 members were especially able to feel at ease with each other and enjoy their practices.
Before their big test, producer RAIN and Big Hit’s performance director Son Sungdeuk visited the I-LAND members to see how their practice was coming along. They were actually really pleased with the results and didn’t have much feedback to offer the trainees.
When the producers went to visit the GROUND members though, they were concerned with what they saw. They worried about Sungchul’s vocals and asked Daniel to sing for them as well, seeming to suggest that the members may want to switch out the vocal representatives.
They also worried about Hanbin’s performance with the dance representatives. Niki had suggested that Hanbin take over for Jaeho in the unit, but the producers believed that Jaeho was actually performing the dance better than Hanbin.
This meant that the GROUND members really had to go back and think on who would perform the test.
At the time of the test, the final sub units were revealed! Geonu and Heeseung would be the vocal representatives while K, Sunghoon, and Jungwon would be the dance representatives for I-LAND. Sunoo and Daniel would be the vocal representatives while Nicholas, Niki, and Jaeho would be the dance representatives for GROUND.
Geonu and Heeseung performed “Butterfly” for their team.
Sunoo and Daniel performed “Save Me” for their team.
On the next episode, fans will get to see the dance representatives face off against each other! As well as find out everyone’s scores to see who will win the test that determines whether or not the I-LAND stays the same or drastically changes!
I-LAND episodes will be available to stream on Youtube as well as Rakuten Viki for international viewers! A special feature called I-LAND cams will be availble on Weverse!
