Julianne Moore, best known over the past couple years for her role as Sarah Palin in HBO’s Game Change, is in consideration for the role of President Coin in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
According to Deadline, who broke the news, the move to secure Moore is likely to happen quickly.
We’ve heard casting rumors concerning Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 over the past several months, but this is the strongest and most reliable murmur yet. In addition, it’s the first time we’re hearing about a particular actress for the role of Coin.
President Coin is introduced in Suzanne Collin’s The Hunger Games trilogy during Mockingjay when we learn that she was the president of District 13 and leads the rebellion against the Capitol. Katniss, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and Coin meet in District 13.
It’s worth noting that Moore starred opposite Woody Harrelson in Game Change. The latter actor stars as Haymitch in The Hunger Games movie trilogy.
Moore won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Mini-Series earlier this year thanks to her role as Sarah Palin in Game Change. Moviegoers also know her for her role in 2010s The Kids Are All Right.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is set to be released November 21, 2014. Part 2 opens in theaters November 20, 2015. Both films will be directed by Francis Lawrence who is helming Catching Fire (due out November 22 of this year).
Yesterday we learned that the second trailer for Catching Fire will debut at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Stars of the film will be there to present the new trailer in front of dedicate fans. Hypable will be there to cover any and all developments concerning Catching Fire, and we’ll be sure to share the trailer as soon as it hits the internet.
Julianne Moore: A strong choice for Coin?
A tweet from one of THR’s writers this morning indicated that Jodie Foster was previously approached for the part.
