Lionsgate has announced that Prison Break’s Robert Knepper has joined The Hunger Games: Mockingjay to play Antonius.
After searching our copy of Mockingjay and doing a search on Google, we are hard pressed to find a character named Antonius in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games trilogy. In fact, the only mention we found was in a piece of fan fiction in which an Antonius is a doctor from District 12. We do not consider this his role in the movie.
UPDATE: Lionsgate’s official response about the character is “no comment.” According to Deadline, Antonius is “President Snow’s minister.” No other information is available at this time.
Antonius could be an entirely new character in Mockingjay written to expand the world of The Hunger Games. Having two films for one book is affording producers the opportunity to add more to the story. For example, producer Nina Jacobsen said last month that President Coin’s role will be larger. Our guess is Antonius will appear with a role in District 13.
Knepper is best known for his role on Fox’s Prison Break in which he played T-Bag.
Do you know who Antonius is?
We’ve reached out to Lionsgate for additional details and will let you know if they have anything to share.
