If you don’t want to wait until 12:01 a.m. eastern/pacific on November 22 for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (you may have class the next day, after all!), Lionsgate has your back.
A press release from Fandango about Catching Fire’s advance ticket sales indicates that there will be showtimes starting as early as 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 21. The pre-midnight showtimes have become an increasingly common trend in the movie industry.
In addition, some theaters will be showing The Hunger Games and Catching Fire back to back.
Tickets for all showings go on sale October 1 at 9 a.m. pacific/12 p.m. eastern. By purchasing a ticket, you will receive an exclusive free download of Phantogram’s “Lights” from the film’s soundtrack. Also on Tuesday, Fandango will unveil a new Catching Fire behind-the-scenes featurette.
“This is one of the earliest coordinated efforts where all of our theater chains are simultaneously selling tickets for an expected blockbuster, nearly eight weeks in advance,” said Paul Yanover, President of Fandango. “We are working closely with Lionsgate to launch a comprehensive content and promotional program on Fandango to support our fans’ most anticipated movie of the year.”
We welcome the earlier showings for Catching Fire because it’s easier for fans to get to and doesn’t require a late night out. Optionally watching The Hunger Games beforehand will let viewers re-experience the storytelling they fell in love with over a year and a half ago.
