A sequel series to the beloved sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, is on the way at Hulu— and Hilary Duff is already on board to star.
How I Met Your Mother fans clamoring for more even seven years after the series ended are about to get their wish.
On Wednesday (April 21), Hulu announced that it has officially given a straight-to-series order to How I Met Your Father— a new comedy series that serves as a sequel to How I Met Your Mother.
The 10 episode comedy already has a huge name attached to star in none other than Hilary Duff who will serve as the series’ narrator, Sophie.
As with HIMYM, the sequel series will pick up with Sophie (Duff) in the future while she’s telling her son the story of how she met his father, before catapulting viewers back to the year 2021, where Sophie and her tight-knit group of friends are in the middle of trying to figure out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to find love in the age of online dating.
Behind the camera, the series hails from Isaac Aptker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us, Love, Victor). Adam Londy will serve as co-executive producer, and Hilary Duff will serve as a producer. Also on board to serve as executive producers on the project are original series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
In a statement announcing the series Bays and Thomas said that they feel lucky to be able to pass the HIMYM baton off to. Aptker and Berger.
“We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story. (Thanks to all the ‘HIMYM’ fans out there who waited for it.)” said Bays and Thomas.
Added Aptker and Berger: “We can’t wait for audiences to meet Sophie and her crew, and watch them come into their own and find love in modern-day New York City. And we hope nobody thinks it’s weird that Bob Saget will be playing old Hilary Duff’s voice.”
