The Batman helmer Matt Reeves is gearing up to bring a new DC drama to HBO Max.
In a press release sent out on Friday (July 10), HBO Max announced that it has given a series commitment to a brand new DC drama that’ll be set in the Gotham City police department.
The untitled series hails from filmmaker Matt Reeves, who’s currently helming Warner Bros., highly anticipated The Batman movie.
Reeves isn’t the only big name attached to the project. Others involved with the GCPD centric series include Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter (who will serve as the series’ writer), as well as The Batman producer Dylan Clark.
Perhaps the most exciting thing about the upcoming series is the fact that it’ll tie in to the world we’ll be introduced to when Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, eventually hits the big screen.
Per the press release, the new show will, in fact, be set in the same world as the one Reeves is building for The Batman. The plan is for the HBO Max series to “build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.”
In a statement announcing the new series, Reeves offered up a few more thoughts about the vision for the show. In addition, the filmmaker also touched on why Winter is the perfect partner in crime for the new HBO Max series.
“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating for the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longford format can afford,” said Matt Reeves. “Getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about world of crime and corruption is an absolute dream.”
Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the new series to hit HBO Max, but Matt Reeves’ The Batman is slated to hit theaters in October 2021.
