Emma Watson had only performed in local productions before she beat thousands of other girls to the coveted role of Hermione Granger.

JK Rowling has long said that Emma is the perfect Hermione, and she has certainly been a fan favourite. Both she and Rupert Grint won their roles in the Harry Potter series before the filmmakers had found Daniel Radcliffe, but when the three did their first screen test together, it became evident that no further search was needed.

Emma Watson focused mainly on the Harry Potter films as she grew up, placing a great deal more emphasis on continuing her education than her co-stars. She was the last to agree to complete the entire series, as she was worried about the balance of filming and studying as she began to work on her A Levels.

These worries seemed baseless, however, as she won a place at Brown University in 2009. Finding it difficult to juggle both her studies and her demanding work schedule, Emma is currently taking a term out, and plans to go back to work in September. She has spent this year studying in Oxford University.

Emma, too, has tried to distance herself from her notoriously studious counterpart, and instead she has become deeply involved in the fashion industry. In 2009 she was named the face of Burberry, and appeared in various photoshoots for their fashion line. She has also developed her own line of fairtrade clothing for People Tree, an organisation who strive to better conditions for those who make their clothes. Emma is currently modelling as the face of the Lancome fragrance Tresor Midnight Rose, and has recently launched a Lancome lipstick range, Rouge in Love.
