Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Character Bios

Harry Potter

Harry Potter is the story’s seventeen year old hero. Instead of returning to Hogwarts for his final school year, Harry sets off with Ron and Hermione to hunt and destroy Voldemort’s horcruxes so that the Dark Wizard can finally be killed. Harry learns of the existence of the Deathly Hallows–objects that, when united, make their owner the master of death–but decides to continue following the instructions Dumbledore left for him and not pursue the Hallows. After discovering that he himself is one of Voldemort’s horcruxes, Harry willingly sacrifices himself. He enters a limbo stage between life and death where Albus Dumbledore explains why Harry isn’t dead (Voldemort took some of Harry’s blood, which contained traces of Lily Potter’s protection, tethering Harry to life so long as Voldemort lives) and how Voldemort can be defeated. Harry returns to consciousness and, with all the other Horcruxes destroyed, duels Voldemort one final time. Harry’s spell collides with Voldemort’s killing curse, which backfires on its caster. Voldemort falls down dead and Harry is, once again, a hero. Harry goes on to marry Ginny Weasley and have three children: James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lily Luna.

Ronald Weasley

Ronald Weasley is one of Harry’s best friends. He accompanies Harry on the quest to destroy Voldemort’s horcruxes. He sneaks into the ministry with Harry and Hermione to steal back the locket Horcrux in Dolores Umbridge’s possession. Influenced by the locket’s dark magic, Ron becomes disgruntled and bitter and leaves Harry and Hermione. He eventually returns with the help of the deluminator and uses the sword of Gryffindor to desolate the locket. Ron is also able to open the Chamber of Secrets by mimicking Harry’s parseltongue. There, he helps Hermione kill another Horcrux (Hufflepuff’s cup) with a basilisk fang. After Voldemort’s defeat, Ron eventually marries Hermione and has a daughter, Rose, and a son, Hugo.

Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger is one of Harry’s best friends. After altering her muggle parents’ memories to protect them from Death Eaters, Hermione accompanies Harry and Ron as they hunt horcruxes. Her beaded bag, magically expanded to hold a vast amount of tools and supplies, helps the Trio survive in the woods for weeks at a time. Hermione destroys Hufflepuff’s Cup horcrux using a basilisk fang and, after Voldemort’s defeat, marries Ron Weasley. The couple eventually have a daughter, Rose, and a son, Hugo.

Lord Voldemort/Tom Riddle Jr

Lord Voldemort/Tom Riddle Jr is considered the most evil Dark Wizard of all time. He takes control over Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic, and wreaks havoc on both the wizarding and muggle worlds with the help of his death eaters. Restored to his fullest power, Voldemort seeks and finds the supposedly unbeatable Elder Wand, which he believes will allow him to finally kill Harry Potter. After realizing that Harry has discovered the secret of his Horcruxes and has arrived at Hogwarts, Voldemort launches an attack against the school. When the Elder Wand fails to work better than his original wand, Voldemort kills Severus Snape with the intention of making the wand’s allegiance transfer to him. Voldemort casts a killing curse on Harry, but only destroys the piece of his own soul still residing in the boy. Harry survives the curse and Voldemort discovers that Harry is the true master of the Elder Wand. Voldemort ends up falling at his own hand when his own killing curse curse collides with Harry’s spell and backfires.

Albus Dumbledore

Albus Dumbledore is the late Hogwarts headmaster. Before his death at the hand of Severus Snape, Dumbledore told Harry to find and destroy Voldemort’s horcruxes. Dumbledore’s potentially troublesome youth comes into question when Rita Skeeter releases a biography called “The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore” just weeks following his death. The book reveals connections between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, a dark wizard Dumbledore defeated in 1945. Harry meets Dumbledore again while in a limbo state between life and death, where the old wizard congratulates Harry on his bravery and tells him that Voldemort can finally be destroyed once and for all.

Severus Snape

Severus Snape is the new Hogwarts’ headmaster. Although he is widely assumed to be a supporter of Lord Voldemort after killing Albus Dumbledore, Snape is actually a double-agent, carrying out orders from Dumbledore and protecting Harry while using occlumency to deceive Voldemort. Snape secretly delivers the sword of Gryffindor to Harry in the woods, enabling Harry and Ron to destroy the locket Horcrux. Snape flees from Hogwarts after dueling with Professor McGonagalll, and goes to Voldemort who kills him in order to gain full power over the Elder Wand. With his dying breath, Snape gives Harry a memory that reveals that Snape was in love with Lily Potter, and had been helping Dumbledore protect Harry ever since her death. The memory also reveals that Harry is Voldemort’s final unintentional Horcrux.

Eventually, he is forced to go into hiding and takes refuge in the Room of Requirement, which transforms into a hideaway for supporters of Harry Potter.
