J.K. Rowling takes you onto the set of ‘The Cursed Child,’ reveals first look at the action

With 100 days to go until the opening, the Potter author takes you behind the scenes of the sequel.

A new video from inside Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’s rehearsals reveals a first look at the big cast practicing for this summer’s opening on London’s West End.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling appears prominently in this 90-second look and talks about being “excited” yet “nervous” for fans to see the eighth story which will follow Harry and his son Albus Severus. Watch below:

No details about the story are revealed during this preview, but the cast are seen handling their wands on numerous occasions, and there’s an interesting moment where a bunch of students all lift their suitcases out of a circle. There’s also a shot of Ron and Hermione kinda dueling, but we are refusing to overthink this (“THEY’RE NOT FIGHTING ARE THEY!?”).

Elsewhere in the video J.K. Rowling, Cursed Child creator John Tiffany, and playwright Jack Thorne talk about how the play will transform over the the course of the preview performances which begin in just 50 days. At the end of the video Jo talks about how awesome the Harry Potter fandom is and indirectly asks attendees to not spoil any of the surprises in the play.

“One of the things that I’ve valued most about the Potter fandom is that a community they have really looked after each other,” she says. “People have each other’s backs, it’s a special thing. It’s for that reason more than any other I would like, if we can, to manage to keep our secrets. This will be such an incredible theatrical experience that I would love us to be able to surprise people and move people in a natural way that a story should surprise and move people.”

Spoilers will definitely be an issue for The Cursed Child. One way J.K. Rowling hopes to combat them is by releasing the script to the world on July 31, 2016 — but that’s a good month and a half after preview performances for The Cursed Child begin. There’s also the fact that the play has a huge cast, meaning there are a huge number of people who could potentially leak something. No wonder that “Keep Calm and Keep the Secrets” sign is on the front door.
