Guillermo del Toro is a master at balancing the art of the creepy with beautiful visuals and story. And, from the looks of The Shape of Water‘s first trailer, it’s continuing the trend.
Is there anything better than hearing the words “other-worldly fairy tale” and Guillermo del Toro in the same sentence?
No, we didn’t think so.
The Shape of Water has Guillermo del Toro’s unique markings all over it, and we absolutely can’t wait to see it in all its stunningly eerie glory on December 8. But, until then, we have the first trailer to tide us over.
(Did anyone else get an Amélie meets the secret origins of Abe Sapien vibe, or was it just us?)
The synopsis from Fox Searchlight reads, “From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes The Shape of Water — an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.”
