Season 2:

2×01 ‘Audition’

A new school year begins and the New Directions get busy trying to recruit more students to the glee club. Glee co-captains and couple, Rachel and Finn, approach two students who seemed to show interest. Rachel talks to foreign exchange student, Sunshine Corazon, but fears that Sunshine may be more talented than she is, so she gives her directions to a crack house as the place of her audition. Finn tries to recruit Sam Evans, a talented transfer student, but Sam turns it down due to the low social status the glee members have. Shannon Beiste is hired as the new football coach and is ganged up on by Will and Sue who are angry that she has taken money away from their budgets for the football team. When Finn approaches Beiste with the idea of Artie joining the team, she believes he is also coming against her, so she kicks Finn off the team and gives the position of quaterback to Sam. Will realizes that his actions are hurtful and makes amends with Beiste. Angry that Will has abandoned her, Sue contacts new Vocal Adrenaline coach, Dustin Goolsby, who swoops in and steals Sunshine away from McKinley.

2×02 ‘Britney/Brittany’

New Directions are preparing for a school assembly where it has been requested by the student body that they perform Britney Spears. Will refuses because he believes she is a poor role-model. When Emma’s new boyfriend, Dr. Carl Howell, does dental work on several of the students they have hallucinations that they are singing Britney songs. Finn tires to rejoin the football team, but Rachel fears if he does he will become too popular to date her. Coach Beiste relents and allows both Finn and Artie to join the team and Rachel feels more secure when Finn still turns down advances from reinstated head cheerleader, Quinn. Will grows jealous of Emma’s relationship with Carl and tries to impress her. He allows the kids to perform Britney at the assembly and joins them. The student body becomes aroused from the performance, prompting Sue to set off the fire alarm. Emma tells Will to stop trying to be something he’s not.

2×03 ‘Grilled Cheesus’

Finn believes he sees the face of Jesus in his grilled cheese sandwich and asks for it to grant him three prayers. All three of his prayers are answered, but when one of them causes Sam to become injured during a football game (which allows Finn to regain his position as quarterback) he feels responsible. Emma tells him that it is unlikely God was speaking to him through a sandwich. Kurt’s father Burt suffers from a heart attack and is taken, unconscious, to the hospital. The glee club members try to offer Kurt comfort through prayer, but he refuses and tells them that he is an atheist. As Burt remains unconscious Kurt begins to feel guilty for not accepting his friends prayers. He cries at his father’s bedside and Burt is able to squeeze his hand.

2×04 ‘Duets’

Will announces a duet competition within the club, with the winners receiving a gift card for dinner at Breadstix. Finn finally convinces Sam to join the club, but worries when Sam agrees to be Kurt’s duet partner that he will be bullied and quit the club. Kurt releases Sam from their duet and Sam ends up partnering with Quinn. Brittany and Artie partner with each other and begin dating. Artie loses his virginity to her, but then breaks up with her when Santana tells him that Brittany was just using him to try to win the competition. Rachel and Finn decide to throw the contest in the hopes that Quinn and Sam will win, solidifying Sam’s place within the club. Sam and Quinn do end up winning and when they are at their victory dinner Quinn tells Sam that it is their first date.

2×05 ‘The Rocky Horror Glee Show’

When Will learns that Emma is a fan of the movie The Rocky Horror Show he decides to make it this years school musical in an attempt to get closer to her. There is concern on several fronts that the musical is inappropriate for high school and Sue is asked by the local media to do an undercover expose. When Mike is denied permission to play the role of Frank N Furter by his father, Sue convinces Carl to get involved in the production to help save it so she can complete her expose. Will grows increasingly jealous of Carl and Emma and begins to persue her more earnestly until Carl calls him out on it. When Finn is suspended for walking through the halls in his underwear in an attempt to get comfortable for his role in the play, Will realizes his motives were not for the kids. He convinces Figgins to lessen Finn’s punishment and cancels the musical. Instead, the kids perform it for themselves.

2×06 ‘Never Been Kissed’

Will announces another competition between the boys and girls of New Directions, but this time they must perform a mash-up of songs done by the opposite gender. The boys are not thrilled by the assignment and get annoyed with Kurt’s suggestions, so they tell Kurt to go spy on one of the schools they will be competing against at Sectionals. Kurt goes to Dalton Academy where he watches their glee club, the Warblers, perform. Afterwards he befriends Blaine, a gay member of the Warblers, and opens up to him about the bullying he continues to receive. Encouraged by Blaine, Kurt confronts Karofsky the next time he bullies him and Karofsky ends up kissing him, but later denies it ever happened.

Puck is released from juvenile detention with the condition that he does community service. Artie helps him with the community service and in return Puck helps Artie get back together with Brittany. Coach Beiste finds out that some of the boys have been imagining her whenever they need to cool down during sexual encounters. She is hurt and plans to resign until Will convinces her otherwise and the boys apologize through their mash-up.

2×07 ‘The Substitute’

When Principal Figgins and Will are out sick with the flu Sue fills in for Figgins and substitute teacher, Holly Holliday, for Will. Rachel is worried that Holly’s unconventional and lax methods will not sufficiently prepare them for Sectionals, but is soon won over. Mercedes feels left out by the growing friendship between Kurt and Blaine, so when Sue tries to ban tater tots she leads a protest. The parents support Sue’s changes to the health plan and her position as Principal is made permanent, at which point she promptly fires Will. When the glee kids begin to need the help of their teacher Holly feels out of her depth and runs to Will for help. The glee club members realize that they need Will and petition Sue to let him come back and she relents. Kurt is once again cornered by Karofsky who threatens to kill Kurt if he tells anyone that he is gay.

2×08 ‘Furt’

Burt and Carole announce their engagement and Kurt begins wedding planning, complete with having New Directions provide the music. After the continued bullying from Karofsky, Kurt learns that unless he physically assaults him there is nothing Sue, who is still Principal, can do. Artie and Mike confront Karofsky in the football locker room and an altercation ensues. Sam jumps in to help while Finn stays out of it. When Burt learns of the bullying and the death threat he sets up a meeting with Sue, the two boys, and Karofsky’s father. At the meeting Sue expels Karofsky because of the death threat. The wedding is a huge success and during his speech Finn apologizes to Kurt and promises to stick up for him from now on. Back at school Kurt learns that Karofsky’s expulsion was reversed by the school board and Sue has resigned as Principal in protest. Burt and Carole tell Kurt that they have decided to use the money saved for their honeymoon to pay the tuition necessary for Kurt to transfer to Dalton Academy which has a zero-tolerance bullying policy.

2×09 ‘Special Education’

With Kurt gone, New Directions needs one more member in order to compete at Sectionals and Puck is able to bribe female wrestle, Lauren Zizes, to join them. Kurt finds it is not as easy as he had hoped to fit in at his new school as they prepare to go head to head with New Directions at Sectionals. Will takes Emma’s advice and decides to change things up by giving the competition solos to group members other than Rachel and Finn, which does not make the co-captains happy. Santana tells Rachel that she and Finn had sex the year before, which infuriates Rachel. New Directions and the Warblers end up tying for first place at Sectionals, so they are both able to move on to Regionals. When they are back at school Will learns that Carl and Emma went to Vegas over the weekend and got married. Finn apologizes to Rachel for not being honest about Santana and promises to always be honest in the furture. Feeling guilty, Rachel confesses that in her anger she made out with Puck and Finn breaks up with her.

2×10 ‘A Very Glee Christmas’

The glee club tries to raise money for a local homeless shelter by caroling around the school without success. Artie finds out that Brittany still believes in Santa Claus and asks the other glee members to help keep up the ruse, but when she asks Santa to give Artie the use of his legs and Santa agrees, Artie becomes dismayed. Coach Beiste dresses as Santa and tries to explain to Brittany that her wish isn’t possible and Brittany loses her Christmas spirit until she discovers a very expensive mobility device that allows Artie to walk for short periods of time under her tree.

The faculty of McKinley hold a Secret Santa drawing, but Sue rigs it so that everyone draws her name. When they find out they reclaim the gifts they gave her with the intention of donating them to the homeless shelter. She retaliates by dressing as the Grinch, stealing the gifts, and vandalizing the choir room. The glee club decides to perform for the faculty to return Christmas cheer to the school. They finally receive donations for the homeless shelter and Sue returns all of the gifts.

2×11 ‘The Sue Sylvester Shuffle’

Coach Beiste requires her football team to join up with the glee club in an attempt to end the animosity between the two groups. Sue schedules a cheer competition for the same day as the football championship in retaliation for the opposition Beiste and Will gave her for a new and dangerous stunt in which Brittany is shot from a canon, so the Cheerios will not be able to perform the half-time show and the cheerleaders who are a part of glee are forced to quit the club. Will offers to have New Directions, with the members of the football team, provide the half-time entertainment. When the football team is slushied because of their involvement with glee they all quit the glee club and are banned from the game. The girls offer to play in the game so they do not have to forfeit, but when Tina is hurt Finn has had enough and convinces the football players the missing Cheerio glee members to return. They all come together to perform at half-time and, with the football players now allowed to play, they are able to win the championship game, whereas the Cheerios lose their competition. Quinn, who is still dating Sam, is impressed by Finn’s leadership and kisses him

2×12 ‘Silly Love Songs’

In honor of Valentine’s Day, Finn sets up a kissing booth to raise money for the glee club with the secret hope that he will get to kiss Quinn again. Quinn avoids the kissing booth until Sam grows suspicious. When she and Finn kiss the sparks are reignited between them and they begin to see each other behind Sam’s back. Santana gets angry when the other club members judge her for her behavior, so she decides to expose Quinn and Finn by giving them mono. Over at Dalton, Kurt is upset to learn that Blaine has feelings for someone else. When Blaine is rebuffed by that person, however, Kurt decides to be honest about his own feelings. Blaine is shocked and tells Kurt that he doesn’t want to ruin their friendship by attempting a romantic relationship.

2×13 ‘Comeback’

At the suggestion of Emma, a depressed Sue joins the glee club for a week to try to raise her spirits. She tries to sow discord in the group, but her plan backfires. Will takes Sue to visit the pediatric oncology ward at the hospital in an effort to show her that things aren’t as bad as she thinks. Sam senses the growing distance between him and Quinn, so he forms a Justin Beiber tribute band, which Puck, Artie, and Mike all join. Quinn decides that she wants to stay with Sam over Finn, but when Sam realizes she cheated on him he breaks up with her and starts dating Santana. Rachel tries to convince the glee club that they should write an original song for Regionals, but they all oppose her. At the end of the week Sue announces that she is now the vocal director of Aural Intensity, who New Directions will be competing against at Regionals.

2×14 ‘Blame It On the Alcohol’

Rachel begins her attempts at songwriting, but realizes that she hasn’t had any experiences to inspire her, so she decides to throw a party for the glee club members, Kurt, and Blaine. Everyone except Kurt and Finn get drunk and during a game of spin the bottle Rachel shares a kiss with Blaine that leads him to believe he may not be gay and the two go on a date. It is not until Rachel kisses Blaine while they are both sober that Blaine realizes he is indeed gay.

Principal Figgins decides to hold an assembly on the dangers of alcohol and asks the New Directions to perform. The group performs while drunk and Brittany and Santana vomit in the middle of the performance. Figgins believes that they were acting and commends them for the performance. After a night of drinking with Coach Beiste, Will dials a number he thinks is Emma’s and leaves a suggestive voicemail. It turns out the number he called was Sue’s and she plays the message over the school intercom. Will feels hypocritcal getting onto the kids for their drinking, so he makes a pledge with them that none of them will drink until after Nationals and, in case they slip up, he gives them his cell number so they can call him to pick them up.

2×15 ‘Sexy’

Holly Holliday returns to McKinley, this time as the sex education teacher. Emma does not approve of Holly’s lessons, but when Carl asks Holly to counsel him and Emma it is revealed that they have never had sex and Emma still has feelings for Will. Holly also counsels Brittany and Santana to help them sort through their confused feelings. Santana admits that she is in love with Brittany, but afraid of being in an open relationship with her and being bullied. Brittany tells Santana that she loves her too, but that she also loves Artie and is not going to end her relationship with him. When the Warblers try to amp up the sexuality in their performances, Blaine discovers that Kurt is very ignorant and goes to Burt to suggest that he talk to Kurt. Burt takes Blaine’s advice and tells Kurt that he needs to hold on to his self-respect and gives him information pamphlets to read through and then come to him with any questions. Holly is eventually asked to leave due to complaints from parents. She asks Will to teach her about romance and the two share a kiss.

2×16 ‘Original Song’

New Directions and The Warblers prepare for Regionals. With Quinn’s support, Rachel is finally able to convince the group that they should write original songs. The group finds inspiration from Sue’s bullying and write the anthem ‘Loser Like Me.’ Rachel confronts Quinn about the truth of her relationship with Puck and Quinn admits the two have been dating for several weeks. She tells Rachel that her path does not follow Finn and she can’t be angry with Quinn for forcing her to see this. Rachel is very upset by the altercation and uses Quinn’s words to write the song ‘Get It Right.’ Over at Dalton, Kurt complains that Blaine always gets the solos and, after watching Kurt sing an emotional song, Blaine insists that he and Kurt do a duet for Regionals. When they get ready to practice, Blaine confesses that he has developed feelings for Kurt and wanted an excuse to spend more time with him. The two then share their first kiss. New Directions ends up placing first at Regionals and the group unanimously awards Rachel the first ever MVP award.

2×17 ‘A Night of Neglect’

New Directions needs to raise funds for travel to New York, so Will decides they will sell salt water taffy. Several members are also on the school decathlon team, which also needs to raise money, and Holly Holliday has the idea of holding a benefit concert. Sue forms what she calls the “League of Doom” to destroy the glee club. Will tries to help Emma with her OCD issues and she tells him that Carl has filed for an annulment. Holly realizes that Will still has feelings for Emma and tells him that she is moving. Kurt and Blaine attend the benefit concert and are harassed by Karofsky, but Santana comes to their defense. Against all odds, the decathlon team earns enough money to go to their competition where they win.

2×18 ‘Born This Way’

Rachel’s nose is broken during a dance rehearsal and her doctor suggests she get a nose job. When Rachel seriously considers having the surgery Will decides to use Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ to teach the kids to accept their flaws. Santana decides to join the race for prom queen to bolster her popularity. She threatens to out Karofsky if he doesn’t help her get Kurt back to McKinley. After Karofsky sincerely apologizes and reveals his true motives to Kurt, Kurt is finally convinced that he will be safe and returns to McKinley. As part of the lesson, Will also tries to help Emma and get her to come to terms with her OCD. In the end, Emma goes to see a psychiatrist and Rachel decides against the surgery, but Santana and Karofsky are unable to acknowledge their homosexuality.

2×19 ‘Rumours’

Sue reinstates the school newspaper and has it filled with false stories about members of the glee club. A series of rumors begin floating around causing a great deal of discord among the group. Artie confronts Brittany about her cheating with Santana, but when he grows frustrated and calls her stupid she breaks up with him. It is suspected that both Quinn and Kurt are cheating on their boyfriends when they are seen on separate occasions leaving Sam at a motel room. It is later revealed that Sam’s father lost his job and they have been forced to live in the motel since their house was foreclosed on; Kurt and Quinn were helping them. The glee club members come together to get back the guitar Sam was forced to pawn in a show of support. April Rhodes returns and asks Will to help her with a show she is about to put out on Broadway.

2×20 ‘Prom Queen’

It is time for the junior prom at McKinley and the competition between prom king and queen candidates – Finn and Quinn, Puck and Lauren, Karofsky and Santana – intensifies. Kurt asks Blaine to go to prom with him and Blaine agrees, although reluctantly since he had gotten beaten up at a dance at his old school for being gay. Left without dates, Rachel, Mercedes, and Sam all decide to go together. They are then joined by Rachel’s ex-boyfriend, Jesse St. James, when he unexpectedly shows up and apologizes for his behavior the previous year.

Puck, who wants to increase his bad boy image, and Artie, who wants to impress Brittany, make a plan to spike the punch. Artie is caught pouring something in the bowl by Sue, but he refuses to give Puck up and tells her it was non-alcoholic lemonade. Finn becomes jealous when he sees Rachel having fun dancing with Jesse and they both get kicked out by Sue when they begin to fight. Not long after it is announced that Karofsky won prom king and Kurt won prom queen as a write-in candidate. Kurt is humiliated and runs from the gym, but after Blaine comforts him he goes back in and accepts the crown. When he and Karofsky walk out to have the traditional king and queen dance Kurt encourages Karofsky to come out, but he says he can’t and runs out. Kurt is left standing there alone until Blaine comes up and asks him to dance.

2×21 ‘Funeral’

Will hires Jesse as a consultant to the glee club to help them prepare for Nationals. Jesse tells him they need to determine who the best singer is and center the performances around that person. Rachel, Santana, Mercedes, and Kurt all audition and Jesse ridicules them all but Rachel, stating that she is the clear winner. Will decides to ignore Jesse’s advice and have them write more original songs that the entire group can perform.

Sue’s sister, Jean, passes away and Sue is devastated by the loss. She allows Finn and Kurt to plan the funeral and for the New Directions to sing. They discover that Jean’s favorite movie was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, so they decide to use the film as inspiration for the funeral. Sue is very touched by all they do and tells Will that he is a good friend and that she will no longer seek to destroy the glee club. After the funeral Finn breaks up with Quinn because he has realized that he still has feelings for Rachel.

2×22 ‘New York’

New Directions travels to New York City for Nationals where they explore the city, looking for inspiration to write their songs. Will contemplates leaving to join April Rhodes on Broadway, but decides to stay with the glee club after he gets to sing from a Broadway stage once. Finn takes Rachel on a date and she gets to meet one of her idols, Patti LuPone. Rachel is torn between her love for Finn and her dream of the stage. After singing on the Broadway stage with Kurt she realizes that her dream is her true love and she and Kurt vow to return to New York for college.

The kids manage to get two songs written just in time for the competition, but are all shocked when Rachel and Finn share an unscripted kiss at the end of one of the songs. Jesse tells Finn that their kiss will cost them the competition and they end up coming in 12th place. When they return home Kurt fills Blaine in on all that transpired and the two declare that they love each other. Rachel tells Finn that she will be going to New York after graduation, but they share a kiss when he reminds her that is a year away.
