A truly epic new trailer for Game of Thrones season 5 has just debuted at the Apple summit – and leaves us a little bit in pieces.
The trailer, caught initially by those tuning in to Apple’s latest event, offers up a juicy minute-and-a-half of footage from the upcoming season. Eerie, intense, unfamiliar, and fascinating, the Game of Thrones season 5 trailer is packed with new details to tease over until April arrives.
The trailer opens with an ominous monologue from Daenerys, speaking from her throne in Meereen. Dany compares the great houses of Westeros to a wheel, constantly rotating in and out of power – and crushing the poor beneath them as it spins.
“I’m not going to stop the wheel,” Dany promises. “I’m going to break the wheel.”
The new Game of Thrones season 5 trailer focuses heavily on Dany – and the unrest in Meereen, which she may not be ruling as well as she thinks. Stannis Baratheon and Jon Snow are also a major focus, and it appears that the king and the watchman may not be getting along as well as could be hoped.
We are inclined to blame Melisandre for that, but hey, maybe it’s not her fault this time.

Tantalizing hints are also offered of Arya Stark’s new steps in Braavos, Sansa having a bad time of things (again), new characters in Dorne, and Cersei Lannister grating against the increasing power of the Faith Militant. Most of these storylines were alluded to in recently revealed episode titles from early in season 5; Jon’s goals in particular were elucidated in a sneak peek, along with a new perspective from Brienne.
Naturally, the new trailer also includes at least one dragon, copious fighting, and lots and lots of blood. We would expect nothing less from our favorite, slightly insane fantasy series!
Game of Thrones season 5 will premiere on Sunday, April 12 at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
