Game of Thrones had a pretty monumental year, so it probably comes as no surprise that the hit HBO series was the most talked about television show on Twitter in 2019.
To mark the end of another year, Twitter has released its annual Year on Twitter global report — a collection of top 10 lists that break down who reigned supreme in categories ranging from politics and sports, to music and emojis.
Fans of the small screen however, will most likely be interested in finding out which shows were the most talked about on Twitter for 2019.
Shocking no one, it’s HBO’s Game of Thrones that’s come in as the number one most tweeted about show of the year.
The move marks a huge leap for the hit fantasy series, which came in ninth on last year’s roundup. That Game of Thrones ranked so low in 2018 however, is likely due to the fact that HBO didn’t release any new episodes of the series last year.
In turn, it feels fitting that Game of Thrones should take top spot in 2019— especially given that the series ended with an eight and final season this past spring.
Other big shows TV fans couldn’t stop chatting about via the social media platform in 2019 include Netflix’s Stranger Things, which took second place. The Simpsons, Netflix’s La Casa De Papel, and Grey’s Anatomy, round out this year’s top five, coming in at third, fourth, and fifth pace, respectively.
