Frozen 2 is living up to its legacy as it finishes up a record-breaking second weekend in movie theaters.
Everyone knew Frozen 2 was going to be big, but with six years separating the sequel from the original phenomenon, it was always possible that some of the initial hype would be lost. However, Frozen 2 proved that not to be the case, as it broke box office records over Thanksgiving weekend.
The cold definitely didn’t stop anyone from getting out to see this movie over Thanksgiving, because the movie brought in a whopping $124 million in its second weekend out. This makes it the highest grossing Thanksgiving weekend movie of all time!
The $124 million the movie earned this weekend is only slightly less than the $130 million it brought in domestically in its opening weekend. Globally, Frozen 2 has already earned $700.4 million according to Box Office Mojo. At this point, it seems inevitable that the feature will cross the $1 billion mark. It’s predecessor brought in just under $1.3 billion at the global box office.
Frozen 2 had some worthy competition in the box office over Thanksgiving, but no other movie came close to competing with its massive numbers. The highly acclaimed Knives Out came in at a distant second with $42 million domestically.
