On The Flash season 6, Caitlin Snow took the backseat in her body to let her alter-ego, Frost, start living her own life. So where is that? What is Frost’s purpose? Why isn’t Caitlin ever around?
Frost took charge of Caitlin’s body, with Caitlin’s permission (of course), on The Flash season 6, episode 2, and has been present for all or the majority of all of the episodes following that (up to this point).
While this certainly had some timing issues — as in Caitlin should have been present as Barry prepared to disappear during “Crisis on Infinite Earths” — it’s an exciting story… if only to see Frost more, since we aren’t really getting the stories we were promised.
What does Frost want to do with her life?
The point of this story has been so that Frost, who has been another presence within Caitlin’s body for the last three decades, could live her own life, finally, and not just play a supporting role and protect Caitlin. For the first time, she wanted to experience all that life had to offer, but other than a few brief moments, what have we actually seen?
Other than Frost (rightfully) freaking out over the world potentially ending with the crisis and a brief birthday party, we haven’t really seen much from Frost. Sure, she’s been working on a few of her relationships with Team Flash and Team Citizen (particularly with Cisco and Ralph, though she has growing bonds with everyone, especially Cecile and Allegra), but this is mostly happening off-screen.
What are her interests? Science has been Caitlin’s love since she was a kid, and while Frost has all of the knowledge Caitlin does, it’s clear that it’s not her future. So what does she want to do? What does she want her life to look like? It’s obvious that Frost and Caitlin can’t co-exist like this forever, so it seems likely that they’ll be split into two people at some point in the future, so we should be seeing glimpses at what Frost enjoys, to set up her future.
Focus on her growing as Frost, one of Central City’s heroes
One thing I’ve loved about The Flash season 6 is that we’ve seen Frost’s abilities grow. Even on the latest episode, The Flash season 6, episode 10, Frost’s cold powers saved her from certain death at the hands of the new Dr. Light. That’s badass! So why does all of her development occur off-screen?
Frost’s had a rocky history, starting as a villain helping Savitar and growing to be a trusted member of Team Flash. She’s worked her way onto the team, and built her relationships up with them enough to be around more often at Star Labs.
However, I’d love to see Frost work, as a hero, to gain Central City’s admiration. Surely some people remember who she was before, and some may be hesitant of trusting her even if she is on Flash’s team, so let’s see her earn her place in Central City as one of their heroes.
It’s something to do for her, as part of her own life, that could even determine if being a hero is something she sees herself doing long into the future. But, for now, it would just be fun to see little moments where Frost is saving someone/saving the day, like we’ve seen with Barry. It would be fun to see that with every hero on the show, honestly.
Casually around at Star Labs
As great as it has been to have Frost around much more on The Flash season 6, does it make sense? Even though she’s her own person, she exists within Caitlin’s body, and Caitlin should be the one in charge and living her life. If Frost wants her own life, they should work to find a way to separate them.
We always see Team Flash hanging around Star Labs, as we have for years, waiting for a meta-human attack or spending time together. With Frost, she’s just, essentially, taking Caitlin’s place there when Caitlin isn’t around. Wasn’t the point of coming out more often so Frost could have her own life? How does it make sense that she’s just taking Caitlin’s role in her life and friendships, instead of seeking out her own?
Why is Frost always at Star Labs, instead of out in the real world, enjoying life, discovering her passions, and making her own friends? She’s not Caitlin, so she shouldn’t be doing the exact same things as Caitlin. What kind of life is that? No different than the one she had before, really.
Give Frost a purpose, so her living her own life and Caitlin not being around isn’t for nothing. Let her discover things she loves about the world that she would have never known or experienced had Caitlin been in charge. We don’t need to see her following Caitlin’s routine, in Caitlin’s life, and only friends with Caitlin’s friends. That’s pointless. She deserves her own purpose.
The Flash season 6 continues Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW!
