Fox has canceled their ambitious baseball drama Pitch after only one season.
Creator Dan Fogelman confirmed the cancelation today on Twitter, writing that “Obviously we’re all crushed — thank you to our amazing fans… and thank you to our incredible cast & crew. Loved every minute.”
Fogelman describes Pitch’s cancelation as “a bad hop grounder to the face,” but says that he remains proud of the series.
All that said: this team put something original and high quality on TV and should be very proud of it – I certainly am of them #Pitch

Pitch starred Kylie Bunbury as Ginny Baker, the fictional first woman to play Major League Baseball. Over its brief, 10-episode run, Pitch explored Ginny’s groundbreaking status, along with her relationships with veteran Mike Lawson (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), agent Amelia Slater (Ali Larter), and the massive apparatus of professional baseball.
While Pitch‘s ratings kept it on the bubble, fans hoped that the series’ innovative storyline and profound female empowerment might tip the scales toward a second season. Advertising for the series — even during the Fox-broadcasted World Series — was rarely predominant, and many had hoped that Pitch would return as a summer show, airing concurrent to the baseball season.
Evidently, that is not to be. Still, Ginny Baker’s powerful story will remain with fans long after this last out.
