Lauren Layne’s most recent series is her best yet, and For Better or Worse is the latest and greatest installment.
If you have yet to fall head over heels for one of Lauren Layne’s books, what are you waiting for? She has written some of the most charming and engrossing romance novels of the decade, each of which will leave you with that warm gooey feeling you usually only get after a fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookie.
About ‘For Better or Worse’
When small-town girl Heather Fowler finally gets promoted from assistant to actual wedding planner, she’s determined to make it as one of Manhattan’s elite Wedding Belles. Unfortunately, her first client demands an opulent black-tie affair at the Plaza…in five months’ time. Heather’s days quickly become a flurry of cake tastings, dress-fittings, RSVP cards, and bridal tantrums. But what she’s really losing sleep over is the live music blaring from her playboy neighbor’s apartment all night.
Five years ago, Josh Tanner was an up-and-comer on Wall Street, complete with the penthouse and the migraines. But a grim cancer diagnosis made him realize there is more to life than the corner office. If only he could convince his pretty, workaholic neighbor to let loose, too. As Heather lets down her guard, Josh is surprised when he starts falling for the sweet, vulnerable woman hiding beneath those power suits. Soon, it’s Heather’s turn to convince Josh to take the biggest risk of all: love.
‘For Better or Worse’ review
Lauren Layne has been a one-click author for me since I first finished Isn’t She Lovely about two years ago. She has never let me down. Whether it’s a Redemption series novel, a Stiletto novel, an Oxford novel, or one of her absolutely fabulous standalones, I have devoured her latest offerings with dedicated fervor. Her latest series, The Wedding Belles, is no different. From This Day Forward, To Have and To Hold and For Better or Worse are all enchanting and chock full of all the witty repartee we have come to joyfully anticipate.
For Better or Worse is an absolute delight. From the moment the story begins, Josh and Heather have that chemistry that you can always count on from a Lauren Layne book. They bicker, they taunt, and they flirt, each interaction pulling them closer and closer together until their lives are permanently altered by the other, and they aren’t even aware of it yet.
When we meet him, Josh is a wearied cancer survivor who is pretending to “live his life to the fullest,” but really, he’s just coasting along until death finds him. He refuses to connect with people to whom he’s not already beholden. He refuses to look for greater purpose in his life. He’s settled. Thank goodness Heather Fowler arrives when she does to shake up everything and make him re-evaluate his lifestyle.
Heather Fowler has been at Alexis Morgan’s side for years, hoping beyond hope that someday she would get an opportunity to work her dream job and help brides (and grooms) plan the most important day of their lives. Seeing her get a chance to do just that is heartening, even if it doesn’t end exactly as she planned.
These two are a ridiculously charming pair, whether they’re arguing about banana bread or gasping for breath after another heart-stopping kiss. I wish my apartment was across the hall from theirs so I could watch their story play out for years and years to come. Josh and Heather are a beautiful addition to the list of fictional couples that have found happily ever after in Lauren Layne’s books, and we can’t wait to see what she has in store for Alexis Morgan in To Love and to Cherish.
For Better or Worse is available now at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Indiebound, or wherever books are sold.
