First ‘Star Wars’ stand alone film rumored to center around Yoda (update: Disney confirms stand alone films)

Recently, Hollywood reported that Disney’s intentions were to create a new Star Wars film every “two to three years.” Although the only definite film thus far is Episode VII, which J.J. Abrams is directing, there’s been some discussion of stand alone films that delve deep into characters’ background.

UPDATE: While speaking to the media during an investors call today, Disney confirmed that stand alone films are in development. They wouldn’t, however, say which characters the films would center upon. Said Disney CEO Bob Iger:

“I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few stand alone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period, too.”

While nothing has been officially confirmed by Disney, Ain’t it Cool News is reporting that the first stand alone Star Wars film will center around our green friend Yoda:

The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon YODA. At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a STAR WARS slate… I’m wildly curious for more details on the YODA film – would this be a young or old YODA tale?

Basically, these Star Wars stand alone films would be basically what Marvel did with ThorIron Man, and all of their superhero centric films – but in reverse order. Marvel created individual character movies first and then created The Avengers, and in the case of Star Wars, this would obviously be the opposite.

This news comes after THR gave a report on how Kathleen Kennedy, who is the head of LucasFilm at Disney, recruited J.J. Abrams to direct Episode VII. THR states that the plan wasn’t only to create another Star Wars trilogy, but also expand on the universe.

Many fans in the past have had wild hopes of a Boba Fett stand alone film, but those hopes sort of died down after learning of his back story in the prequel trilogy.

Create a Yoda film, should Disney? Happy with Yoda, are you? Other character you want to see, do you? Your thoughts, leave below you should.
